Simply Sophisticated. Minneapolis, Minnesota.
About the Project
The kitchen layout was completely redesigned to give this Minneapolis family of four room to be together, while enjoying the openness of the rest of the home. Creatively combining colors and textures, Brandi chose tones and materials that contrasted for a contemporary but relaxed atmosphere. The couple loved the feel of European high gloss cabinets, along with contrasting walnut cabinetry to keep the feeling warm and natural instead of extremely modern. These two finishes were brought together with the white-washed, rift-cut oak flooring, and a white Carrera marble tile backsplash. All materials, from wood to stone to metal, have their own tone and texture signatures.
This Minneapolis family also needed a kitchen dining space that was not too big for them, but could easily adjust for entertaining guests. To solve this, Brandi chose a rustic farm-house table, made of reclaimed pine, and placed it partially under a stainless steel island. This way, the table could be pulled out to seat up to eight people. Placing the wood table directly next to the modern stainless island also created visual interest by mixing the materials and textures. In addition to the great aesthetic outcome, the durability of these materials stands up extremely well to the wear and tear of this family with two young children.
